Hounds take tough loss to East Valley

Sophomore Isaac Kim battles with an East Valley player for the ball

On Tuesday, the Hounds stayed down at the Windy Gulch for their home opener. The Hounds entered this game 5-0-8 overall while East Valley entered the game 2-0-9. The Hounds opened the game strong connecting passes efficiently. Their momentum was quickly shut down though with East Valley’s Stevens putting in a shot off the pass from Stern in the 12th minute. The Hounds kept their heads up and didn’t back down. Senior Will Konkel played a beautiful cross right into the back side of the box, after bouncing around it was controlled and struck in by junior Sam Tingstad in the 24th minute. As the half came to a close, the Hounds showed minimal frustration about only being tied. On the other end, East Valley’s coach must have said something inspiring because East Valley came out firing. East Valley’s Stevens lead the attack with a goal right out the gate scoring off a pass from Dinaro in the 48th minute. With a fire in their stomachs, East Valley’s Cathcart scored just 7 minutes later in the 55th minute off an assist from Larsen. The Hounds determined to retake the game didn’t back down though. East Valley struck a corner which was cleared out of the box shortly thereafter. Sam Tingstad saw an opportunity with a minimal East Valley defense to deal with, he swept up and carried the ball all the way down the field. After beating the first two defenders with his speed and ball handling, there was just the last defender and the goalie left. He took a quick touch past the defender and nailed the ball into the back of the net in the 58th minute, leaving the goalie with a pair off crossed up ankles. The Hounds continued to fight giving it their all but East Valley’s Stevens closed out the game in the 80th minute scoring the momentum ending goal to seel the deal, give himself a hat trick, and lead  East Valley to only their second league win, and improving them to 3-9 overall. With this loss, the Hounds fall to 5-4 in league and 5-9 overall.

The team looked slow from the start, we have to put this one behind us and look to beat Clarkston on Monday. -Junior Sam Tingstad
